Slogans

Many slogans are chanted in this world
which can lead to much goodness or much harm.
But perhaps the worst of all of those are:
“Us versus them” or “take the money - run”.

Tea Time Rhapsody

<Originally written on February 19, 2007>

An open-bistro in Boat Basin's stench,
where a green tacky dangling diner set,
sits six friends off and around a square bench.
Cheap china spread upon a matted net.
Ambiance such; a piper spends his time
blowing a tune, amidst a bustling knot.
Waiter quests to collect much needy dime,
fulfilling the order: 'six teas brought hot'

Friends take each others' in sheer amusement
Each work to fabricate, a niggling tweak,
None wins, nor can escape from this torment
Finally all hush, to get one to speak

Lifting his cup to the awaiting plea
He smirks "Um this is not my cup of tea"

The Passerby

<Originally written on February 18, 2007>

On the break of dawn, the people they resurrect
Waking from dreams and nightmares,
to live a day which shall end tomorrow

A mother she prepares a lunchbox, and waves goodbye
to the workingman who sits in his worn-out Volvo,
buckling the seat belt of his school bound child.
They ride on, the morning sun glaring off the dashboard,
the radio it speaks of a broken home.
The father he puts the volume high.
The child he asks, "Dad what is a broken home?"
The father he replies, "Son your school is here,
I shall tell you when you get back home.

At the toll of noon, the people they rejuvenate
Waking from dreams and nightmares,
To live out the story of the day

The mother she calls a friend, "My husband can't put
food on the table no more, I'm thinking of leaving him".
An employee is called in the bosses office,
"Your Performance has dropped;
we're laying you off because we feel that you're troubled at home."
The employee he walks out, angry and disillusioned
He screeches his car off in frustration to speeds at which
One shouldn't be. In the midst a passerby, he remarks
"People who abuse life like that, don't deserve to live"

At the nadir of the sun, people they discriminate
Waking from dreams and nightmares,
to fade with the remainder of the dying day.

The Wife she rushes to the hospital, where the doctor
mournfully says "I'm sorry we tried our best but your
Husband, the passerby didn't make it. The car which hit him, did him for good.
He was a brave man, May God grant him peace."
The mother she wept her way back home. Devastated, not knowing how to break the news to her only son. The student, back at home revising the lesson he learned at school today from a man named Shakespeare, who says - "All the world's a stage…"

In the silent hours of the night, the people they contemplate.
Waking from dreams and nightmares,
They ponder at the purpose of this life.

Sifting Away

Oh I'm sifting away, my life from loots

Oh I'm sifting away sand from my boots
Is there anything left in what you say
That I shouldn't consider throwing away?

And there is nothing left in all my strife
It had numbed so much, that it cut by knife
And now I'm here, aiming at the bin
throwing away - all what you came to win.

Oh I'm sifting away, the dirt from a vice
Oh I'm sifting away, meat from this slice
Is there anything left you want to say
that forever should be kept, here to stay?

And for once I'll feel a winter so warm,
wandering around somewhere in a swarm.
And is there any memory I should keep,
before I burn all bridges and take a leap?

Oh I'm sifting away, my heart from a maze
Oh I'm sifting away, flowers from the vase
Is there anything left - perhaps in a word,
that could take me so high, flying like a bird.

Oh I'm sifting a way of ‘sifting away’.
Oh I'm sifting away, of sifting a way.
